Prof. Dr. Thomas Saretzki

Thomas Saretzki is University Professor for Political Theory and Policy Analysis at the Center for the Study of Democracy, Leuphana University of Lueneburg (Germany). In 2008, he was invited as Visiting Professor for “Man and Technology” at the Philosophical Faculty of RWTH Aachen University. In 2006, he worked as Visiting Research Scholar at the Center for International and Comparative Studies, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. From 2001 to 2006 he served as University Professor for Environmental Policy and Politics at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, University of Lueneburg. Earlier in his career, he worked as research fellow at the Institute for Political Science, University of Technology Darmstadt, the Institute for Political Science and the Institute for General Botany, University of Hamburg.

He has published extensively on conceptual problems of policy research, on issues of energy, environmental and technology policy, on technology assessment, risk analysis and on the role of experts with a special focus on the challenges environmental problems and new technological developments imply for democratic governance and the theory of democracy.

Recently, he has been appointed to serve as a member of the International Scientific Advisory Board for the Institute of Technology Assessment of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and as chair of the jury for the 2009 scientific award of the German Political Science Association (DVPW) on the “politics of sustainability”.
