Wolfgang Sachs (PhD) is an internationally recognized scholar in environmental sociology and development studies. He is a director of research in globalization studies and new models of wealth at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy. Furthermore, he is a Honorary Professor at the University of Kassel, Germany, a regular Scholar-in-Residence at the Schumacher College, England, and has been teaching at the universities of Pennsylvania, Berkeley, Rome, Siena, and Aalborg.
He has served as a lead author for the Third Assessment Report of the IPCC, and he is a member of the Club of Rome. Wolfgang Sachs has edited and authored a dozen monographs, some of them in numerous languages. His most widely read book is „The Development Dictionary. A Guide to Knowledge as Power“ (London: Zed, 1992). Recently, he published – together with T. Santarius – „Fair Future. Resource Conflicts, Security, and Global Justice“ (London: Zed, 2007) and was responsible for Wuppertal Institut, "Zukunftsfähiges Deutschland in einer globalisierten Welt", Frankfurt: Fischer, 2008.
